02 What it is

UX decides the path. UI makes it visible.

They're two different jobs, working on the same product — one invisible when done right, one impossible to miss.

User Experience — UX

How it works, and how it feels

  • User research
  • Information architecture & sitemaps
  • Wireframes & user flows
  • Usability testing

Goal: solve the right problem, and make the path through it obvious.

User Interface — UI

What it looks like, and how it responds

  • Color palettes & typography
  • Buttons, sliders & components
  • Layout & visual hierarchy
  • Micro-interactions & motion

Goal: make it visually engaging, and satisfying to use.

03 How it works

EDIPT — five stages, in this order

Empathize, Define, Ideate, Prototype, Test. Tap a stage to see what actually happens in it.

E — Empathize

Understand the people who'll actually use this — their goals, frustrations, and the workarounds they've already built for themselves.

04 Prototyping

Three fidelity levels, each answering a different question

Jumping straight to a polished mockup is how feedback ends up about color instead of whether the thing actually works.

Low-fidelity

Paper sketches & wireframes

Fast and disposable — meant to be wrong quickly, before anyone gets attached to it.

→
Mid-fidelity

Greyscale clickable prototype

Real layout, real flow, no color yet — so feedback stays on structure, not taste.

→
High-fidelity

Polished interactive prototype

Looks and behaves like the real product — ready for sign-off and developer handoff.

05 Usability testing

Not "do you like it." Can you actually use it.

Usability testing isn't a survey. It's watching real people attempt the task and noting exactly where they hesitate, backtrack, or give up.

01

Gets the job done

The interface helps people finish the task — not just look good while they try.

02

Self-explanatory

Each step makes sense on its own, without needing a manual or a tooltip.

03

You're in control

People can pause, undo, or change direction without feeling trapped.

04

Behaves as expected

Matches the conventions people already learned from other products.

05

Forgives mistakes

A wrong click doesn't cost data, money, or a fresh start.

06

Adapts to different users

Works for a first-time visitor and a power user without compromising either.

07

Gets easier with use

The tenth visit should feel faster than the first — the interface itself teaches it.

08

Clear at a glance

Legible, consistent, and free of visual noise competing for attention.

06 Who it's for

If any of these sound familiar

Based in Coimbatore, Akkenna works with startups, growing businesses and product teams across India — this is who typically comes to us.

Founders launching a first product

You have the idea and maybe a working build. We help make it usable before it ships to real customers.

Teams redesigning something clunky

Something isn't converting or retaining the way it should — usability testing shows exactly where people drop off.

Businesses that outgrew a template

The website or app has grown past its first version and needs an actual design system, not more patches.

E-commerce & booking platforms

Every extra click before checkout is a customer quietly deciding it's not worth the effort.

10 Questions

Frequently asked

What's the difference between UX and UI design?

UX is how the product works and how it feels to use — research, structure, flows and usability. UI is what it looks like and how it responds — color, type, buttons and layout. UX decides the path; UI makes that path visible.

Do you redesign existing products, or only build new ones?

Both. Most redesign engagements start with an audit of what already exists before deciding what actually needs to change.

What's the EDIPT process, and do we have to follow all five stages?

Empathize, Define, Ideate, Prototype, Test — our five-stage design thinking process. Smaller projects compress stages rather than skip them; the order still holds.

Do you deliver a working prototype, or just design files?

Clickable prototypes are a standard deliverable, plus source design files and a developer handoff spec when needed.

How it comes together

A clear path from brief to handover.

  1. STEP 01

Define the users, tasks and constraints.

  2. STEP 02

Explore flows and review a prototype.

  3. STEP 03

Refine the interface and prepare the agreed handover.

Before we begin

Clear inputs. Fewer surprises.

What to bring to the conversation

Product goals, existing screens, user feedback, platform constraints and brand guidance.

You do not need a perfect brief. Start with what you know.

What shapes the quote and timeline

Number of flows, screen states, research access, testing and design-system depth.

Scope and delivery dates are confirmed after reviewing the requirements—not promised before the brief.
